Nations Teams defeat Avilanian Selections

The Under-23 Baseball Preselection team preparing for the upcoming pre-world Championship in Panama defeated the Ciego de Ávila team (blue) with a heavy scoreline of 13-1 in the first game of the Eddy Martin Sánchez Baseball Cup being held in Ciego de Ávila.

The national team mounted a strong offensive with 15 hits led by Harold Vázquez who went 4 for 2 with two home runs and four runs batted in; Yasel Izaguirre, Reidel Sánchez, and Euclides Pérez also had two hits each in the game, while Yuliesky Remón went 5 for 3 in the challenge.

For the Avilanian team, Jonathan Bridon Sarduy batted cleanup and played first base, compiling 4 for 2 with one run batted in.

The winners used three pitchers: starter left-hander Alex Guerra, who conceded the Avilanians’ only run; Carlos Benavides, the winning pitcher of the challenge; and Avilanian closer Yunier Batista. Meanwhile, three other pitchers threw for Ciego de Ávila: Leonardo Reyes, the losing pitcher of the encounter; young Randy Alvarez; and left-hander Javier Griñán.

In the second game, the junior team managed by Abeisy Pantoja defeated the other Ciego de Ávila squad eight runs to five with an offensive of 11 hits despite the five errors they committed in the field.
