National football team prepares for match against Bermuda

Cuba’s national football team arrived in Santiago de Cuba on Sunday, where they began training for next Tuesday’s decisive match against Bermuda in the closing Group A of the first phase of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The Lions of the Caribbean are inspired after returning home with a 1-0 away win over Antigua and Barbuda, and are confident of a good result at the Estadio Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba.

With six points in second place behind Honduras (9), they need just a draw to advance to the final round of World Cup qualifying, a stage they have not reached for more than 40 years when they were seeking a place at Spain 1982.

The Gombey Warriors are also in high spirits after a 5-0 thrashing of the Cayman Islands (3). In the other game on Tuesday, Honduras, who have already qualified for the next round, face Antigua and Barbuda (1).

The top two teams in each group advance to the next phase on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. We will see if our team will ultimately accompany Honduras in the final stretch of World Cup qualifying.
