National Assembly in Session Today

Via videoconference, and with the participation of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, the Economic Affairs, Constitutional and Legal, and Education commissions of the Cuban Parliament held sessions yesterday.

The Sixth Ordinary Session of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP) in its Tenth Legislature will take place this Thursday, at the Havana Convention Palace, in a complex economic and social context for the country and with an agenda centred on economic and legislative matters.

Within the agenda, the swearing-in of the new deputies, the evaluation of compliance with and impact of the measures of the Government Programme to correct distortions and reinvigorate the economy, the presentation of the economic objectives and targets for the coming year, and the analysis and discussion of the draft State Budget Law for the year 2026 are foreseen.

Likewise, the deputies will submit to a vote the approval of the draft «General Law of Science, Technology and Innovation» and the «Law on the Exceptional Reduction of the Current Duration of the Term of Office of Delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power».

In the plenary session, an update on compliance with the legislative schedule will also be presented and the election of new members of the Council of State will take place.

Previously, the Council of State of Cuba approved adjusting the programme and conducting it via videoconference only on the 18th of December.

Those matters not addressed in this session will continue their analysis in subsequent stages, according to the decisions adopted by the Council of State.
