- The tributes will extend throughout this week and are expected to culminate on 30 June with gatherings in the municipalities of Chambas and Morón.
The municipal events celebrating the creation of the National Electoral Council (CEN) of the Republic of Cuba began in the province with a first tribute in the municipalities of Ciro Redondo and Ciego de Ávila.
The activities will continue throughout the coming days, with the presence of the authorities of the Municipal Electoral Councils (CEM) and the Provincial Electoral Council (CEP), led by its president, Osvaldo Álvarez Díaz, and vice-president, Marleny Báez Valdivia.
According to the programme, it is planned that in the coming week, recognitions will reach the municipalities of Primero de Enero, Bolivia, Baraguá, Venezuela, Florencia and Majagua.
The day will conclude on Tuesday, 30, in the localities of Chambas and Morón, thus closing the calendar of events in each of the demarcations.
In each of these meetings, members of the municipal councils will carry out a detailed review of the work carried out in recent months.
The analysis will cover both tasks related to electoral processes and the administrative functions performed by these structures.
Additionally, a seminar will be held aimed at updating CEM members on the latest guidelines for the functioning of the Cuban electoral system.
The use of social media as a communication tool and link with the population will also be addressed, an increasingly relevant issue in the work of these bodies.
Among the scheduled activities is the recognition of individuals who have dedicated years of work to the electoral field in their territories.
Likewise, the documentary management of each municipal council will be reviewed, with the aim of maintaining order and transparency in their archives.
Electoral Law No. 27 grants Municipal Electoral Councils a fundamental role in the political and social life of each territory. These bodies are directly responsible for ensuring that each electoral process is conducted with transparency and justice from the grassroots, ensuring that the popular will is correctly expressed at the ballot box.
CEP President Osvaldo Álvarez Díaz presents a framed image of José Martí to Rubén Antonio Gutiérrez Macías, president of the CEM of Ciego de Ávila, in recognition of the work carried out by that electoral body.
Likewise, the CEMs act as a link between citizens and higher electoral institutions. Their daily work ranges from the preparation of polling stations to the dissemination of information on dates and procedures, always with the purpose of strengthening participative democracy in the country.
Once all municipal events are completed, the province will celebrate the provincial event, which will serve as a prelude to the official commemoration of the CEN anniversary.
The central date for this day is 13 July 2019, the day on which this permanent body was founded.
The National Electoral Council was established following the proclamation of the 2019 Constitution of the Republic. Its creation responded to the need for a stable institution, responsible for organising and supervising electoral processes and popular participation mechanisms throughout the country.
With these activities, Ciego de Ávila joins the national celebration, reaffirming the commitment of its authorities and electoral workers to transparency and legality at every step of the Cuban political system.
