After seven years of inactivity, the train covering the route from Morón to Perea-Venegas, with stops at Enrique Varona, Chambas and Florencia stations, has re-established its services. This required determined efforts to restore three passenger carriages and a locomotive.
The train’s arrival in the various localities is a cause of joy for all residents of these mountainous areas belonging to the Plan Turquino Bamburanao.
The reinstatement of this train’s departures, along with the prior rehabilitation of key routes such as Morón-Esmeralda – and the Morón-Ciego de Ávila train, which frequently continues its journey to Camagüey on Mondays and Fridays – constitutes an undeniable step forward, though challenges persist.
The revival of railway services in this territory forms part of the strategies activated in celebration of the 72nd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, and the decision to designate Ciego de Ávila as the national host for this 26th of July.
