The National Assembly of People’s Power (Cuba’s parliament) focuses today on evaluating government management in Camagüey province and debating key legislative proposals during its Fifth Ordinary Session. Provincial Governor Jorge Enrique Sutíl Sarabia will present a report on Camagüey’s governmental work, followed by an assessment from the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP).

The parliamentary agenda includes examination of two significant bills: the Cuban Sports System Law and the Code for Children, Adolescence and Youth. These come after Thursday’s session where deputies analyzed the Transport Ministry’s (Mitrans) performance, recognizing both the sector’s decline and its potential for recovery through self-generated solutions to achieve economic stability.

The oversight report highlighted persistent transportation challenges, particularly the inability to meet population mobility needs due to fuel shortages, poor vehicle conditions, and lack of foreign currency for spare parts procurement.

Other parliamentary actions included approving Foreign Policy Guidelines for 2025-2028, reviewing the National Sports Institute’s accountability, analyzing strategies to strengthen oversight mechanisms, and discussing the General Regime for Administrative Contraventions and Sanctions bill.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez emphasized Cuba’s diplomatic priorities, with national independence and defense of the Revolution as primary objectives, followed by economic recovery efforts to alleviate hardships facing Cuban families. The session demonstrates parliament’s dual focus on provincial governance accountability and legislative measures to address the country’s socioeconomic challenges.
