Latin American Medicine Day celebrated in Ciego de Avila

With an extensive programme of activities that includes the construction and repair of Family Doctor and Nurse Clinics and maternity homes, as well as the rehabilitation of wards in the provincial hospitals, the health workers of Avila are celebrating the Day of Latin American Medicine today.

This was announced by Dr. Nilka Pita Alemán, director of this sector in Ciego de Ávila, who listed among the results of this year the decrease in deaths in the Maternal and Infant Programme and the maintenance of the remaining parameters in the established range in the country.

In terms of human resources, he said that health professionals in this province are trained to the highest quality, with high ethical and humanist values, and show their self-sacrifice despite the difficulties the country is going through, as true soldiers of the army of white coats.

He also expressed that this date represents a tribute to the greatest Cuban scientist on the 191st anniversary of his birth. «We remember Carlos J. Finlay as an inspiring example of dedication to the medical profession, and of how science at the service of health can achieve significant advances in the protection of life,» he said.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the provincial health director sent a message of congratulations to all health workers in Avila, urging them to continue working with a special role and to strengthen the doctor-patient relationship.

The provincial ceremony in Ciego de Avila for the Day of Latin American Medicine will take place this December 3rd, at nine o’clock in the morning, at the Nguyen Van Troi Psychiatric Hospital, an institution that is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its foundation.
