International Women’s Day race in Cuba

It will take place on 8 March as part of the celebrations for the 65th anniversary of the FMC and the 95th birthday of its historic leader, Vilma Espín Guillois.

INDER and the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) invite you to participate this Saturday in the Women’s Race Walk for International Women’s Day.

This special event will take place all over the island and will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the FMC and the 95th birthday of its historic leader, Vilma Espín Guillois.

Women of all ages, from children to senior citizens, as well as members of schools, workplaces and the community in general, will be able to participate.

The Havana circuit will start in the car park of the Ciudad Deportiva in Havana, continue along Vía Blanca, continue along Primelles and Santa Catalina, then return along Boyeros and finish in Vía Blanca.

According to what has been circulated by the National Commission of Marabana-Maracuba Races and Walks, the route includes two kilometres that can be covered by running or simply walking.

Participants will be able to register for a single lap or five laps – which would cover 10 km – and the starting times are 8:00 a.m. for the longer distance and 9:00 a.m. for the 2 km.

Registration is expected to take place on the 7th for those opting for the 10 km. At the Marabana-Maracuba offices between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., wearing the Marabana 2024 bib for those who already have one, and new runners will receive a bib to participate.

Those who complete the distance will qualify for Marabana 2025. Registration for the two kilometres will take place on the day of the race, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., in the car park of the Ciudad Deportiva.

In the free category, prizes will be awarded to the first three places and to participants with motor, visual, hearing and intellectual disabilities.

The race-walk will take place simultaneously in all provinces, municipalities, rural and mountain population centres of the country.
