The project dedicated to restoring sand mounds, led by the Centre for Environmental Engineering and Biodiversity (CIBA) in the Avilanian municipality of Morón, as part of Life Task, includes technical actions such as planting native flora and removing invasive exotic species.
This initiative also extends to training workers from hotel, non-hotel and tourism support facilities, aiming to provide knowledge for efficient coastal ecosystem management and enhance risk perception regarding Climate Change (CC).
Notable is the execution in Jardines del Rey of an international project promoting sustainable tourism, designed to integrate conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity with CC mitigation in vulnerable marine-coastal areas through innovative models featuring strengthened capacities and financial mechanisms.
The coastal community of Manatí, within the Turiguanó Popular Council, also benefits from a collaboration project contributing to developing technical and human capacities under the guidance of the Coastal Ecosystems Research Centre (CIEC) and the Iris Climate Foundation, targeting medium and long-term adverse scenarios.
Complementing these are efforts to protect over 15,000 hectares of mangrove forests, safeguarding biodiversity in marine-coastal ecosystems and providing natural disaster resilience, owing to these green spaces’ capacity to mitigate wave impact and strong winds.
