The National Forecasting Center of Cuba’s Meteorological Institute reported that the heavy rains that hit the eastern part of the Caribbean island will persist today and tomorrow in that region.
In the last televised report, the scientific entity insisted that the most worrying thing is the abundant rainfall because due to the hydrometeorological situation of the previous days, the soils are already saturated and more floods could occur.
Cuba is under the effects of a trough, an extensive area of clouds, showers, and thunderstorms, and the formation of a tropical organism in the western Caribbean, where it is already raining heavily in Jamaica and Haiti, should not be ruled out.
The central region of the largest of the Antilles should remain alert, as this situation will persist until Saturday.
Yesterday, the National General Staff of the Cuban Civil Defense established the alert phase for heavy rains for the provinces of Las Tunas, Holguin, Granma, Santiago de Cuba, and Guantanamo, starting at 18:00, local time.
The decision is adopted taking into account the complexity of this hydrometeorological event, the probability of the development of the low-pressure system in the next 24 to 48 hours, which could become a Tropical Depression, and the proximity of the weekend.
The National General Staff of the Civil Defense together with the Meteorological and Hydraulic Resources institutes of the Caribbean nation are keeping a watchful eye on this situation.
