The Turiguano Genetic Livestock Enterprise in Morón municipality, Ciego de Ávila province, has taken strides toward energy sovereignty by installing solar panel arrays in its administrative offices, management, and economic departments.
According to Nathanael González Chinea, the enterprise’s deputy director, these installations will ensure uninterrupted information flow, enable multilevel video conferencing, and maintain critical operations during power outages.
The official noted that four livestock units have also been equipped with solar panels and battery systems, facilitating improved cattle management and protection. This infrastructure allows workers to reside near herds while maintaining operational systems.
González Chinea reported that work is underway to complete a fifth such facility, with visible benefits already emerging in animal control, reduced theft incidents, and decreased illegal slaughter.
Beyond solar energy, the Turiguano enterprise harnesses wind power through ten operational windmills that supply water to cattle and equine herds.
