The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) is implementing new commercial measures focused on the mobile telephone service, in particular on the purchase of plans and mobile recharges.
Although its website provides details, Lidia Esther Hidalgo Rodríguez, the company’s commercial vice-president, explained to the press that the current complex financial situation is forcing the company to seek income that will allow it to sustain its services and improve quality and technological infrastructure.
She argued that the US blockade has had an impact on ETECSA’s critical financial situation by limiting the acquisition of technology and making materials, raw materials and technology more expensive, which, because they are first-world and cutting-edge, are becoming increasingly difficult to buy.
Fraud is another phenomenon that has a direct impact on the economic situation of the company and the country, said Hidalgo Rodríguez.
He clarified that from now on all the offers of the entity will be known as plans, while for lower prices there will be more and better options.
In this sense, as of today, customers of the prepaid mobile service will be able to top up their main balance up to a total amount of 360 CUP within 30 days.
Customers’ mobile credit remains the same, and both now and in the future it can be used to purchase plans without purchase limits, or to make as many balance transfers as they wish.
Also, some plans have been modified to offer more DATA for less up to 360 CUP; these will be available via USSD code (by dialling *133#).
All these offers will maintain the 300 MB of national navigation, explained ETECSA’s commercial vice-president.
She said DATOS plans can now be used on any network (2G, 3G and 4G), a measure that facilitates the use of data at any mobile network connection point, and benefits mainly those users with accumulated data volumes for exclusive use on 4G.
It will also be possible to purchase plans with DATOS Extra at higher prices in CUP (from Transfermóvil, online services and the commercial network), and in USD (from the MiTransfer wallet and international cards valid in our commercial offices), said the specialist.
The VOICE, SMS and toDus (messaging exchange) plans maintain the same prices and can be paid for online services, Transfermóvil and in the commercial network itself.
According to Hidalgo Rodríguez, ETECSA reiterates its commitment to work to overcome current challenges.
In this sense, the fundamental premises are to continue offering services in national currency for the enjoyment of the population, to maintain free access to digital learning environments and to continue ensuring connectivity to sectors of social importance as support for the process of digital transformation in the country.
The specialist recalled that in December last year, before the National Assembly of People’s Power Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister, reported that during 2025 ETECSA would implement commercial measures focused on achieving the development and sustainability of services, and the search for income and financing.
These and other steps will allow telecommunications in Cuba to continue the development plan that we have been carrying out for years, which has exceeded more than 2 billion dollars in investment, Hidalgo Rodríguez said.
