Soon, for five days, they will strive to shake the world from Havana with the celebration of the Third International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left-Wing Parties and Movements, as well as the First International Granma Rebelde Festival.
According to information offered at a press conference by Luis Morlote Rivas, an official of the Central Committee of the Party and director of its magazine Cuba Socialista, the first of these events will take place between the 15th and 17th of October at the Ñico López Party University, while the second will occur from the afternoon of that last day until Sunday the 19th at Línea and 18, in Havana’s Vedado district.
Closely linked, the events will bring together more than one hundred participants, from a number of countries exceeding 30, he specified. The sessions will chart collective strategies, address critical themes, and will champion equality, solidarity, and participatory democracy.
The Publications Meeting, convened by Cuba Socialista and co-sponsored by the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defence of Humanity and Casa de las Américas, will be attended by outstanding intellectuals, activists, and political scientists, including Ignacio Ramonet, who is responsible for the keynote lecture on the challenges posed to the left by quantum artificial intelligence, he commented.
Among other prominent figures, he added, are the Mexican artist and philosopher Fernando Buen Abad; the Cuban doctor in Law, in Juridical and Philosophical Sciences, and in Pedagogy, Isabel Monal; from the Communist Party of Spain, José Luis Centella; and the director of La Iguana tv, Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela. High-level delegations from China and Vietnam will also attend.
The event will host simultaneous workshops and panels on topics such as the new type of fascism, political communication, and youth for a better future. There will be book presentations on the thinking of various leaders and the launch of the 2024-2025 issue of Cuba Socialista, which includes a summary of the previous edition of the Meeting.
Meanwhile, the Festival, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Granma and Juventud Rebelde newspapers, as well as to the centenaries of the first Communist Party and of the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, will host experiences from media outlets across the Island and abroad. Visual artists, musicians, and other prestigious figures will animate the upcoming dates, detailed Yoerky Sánchez Cuellar, director of the Granma newspaper.
For his part, Yuniel Labacena Romero, at the head of Juventud Rebelde, expressed that these activities, open to the public during the weekend from ten in the morning until seven at night, will include the holding of several panels, such as one on the figure of Fidel, in which journalists who knew him will exchange views.
