French Association Condemns Blockade and Strengthens Support for Cuba

The association France Cuba today renewed its 65-year commitment to solidarity with the island by condemning the United States economic, commercial and financial blockade and announcing actions for the coming months.

The oldest solidarity organisation with Cuba on French soil, and one of the oldest of its kind in the world, stressed at its general assembly, held over the weekend in the southern commune of Agde, its rejection of the siege imposed by Washington for over six decades, describing it as criminal.

In particular, it denounced the tightening of the blockade through a crusade by the Donald Trump Administration aimed at starving the Caribbean nation of oil, and the extraterritorial nature of a policy that impacts French citizens, companies and banks.

In this regard, they advocated demanding a firm response from the French Government to the fact that French economic and financial entities are being dictated to from abroad about whom they may do business with and whom they may not.

France Cuba agreed at its meeting to support the purchase of solar panels for the local development project Flora: Botica de la Abuela, which combines traditional medicine with scientific progress, so that it can continue to contribute its products to alleviating the population’s health problems.

It also decided to support preparations for sending a new container, following the one that arrived in Havana last year with medical supplies, this time thanks to the efforts of local chapters of the association, such as those based in Midi-Pyrénées and Bordeaux, in coordination with the French Communist Party.

Likewise, the organisation, which brings together more than 800 members, set as one of its priorities in the material sphere of solidarity to maintain the sending of suitcases of medicines by air, a method that has enabled Cuban health institutions to benefit from more than a tonne of pharmaceuticals and supplies.

Another of the activities agreed upon at the general assembly was participation in brigades travelling to the island, identified as a way to encourage young people to join the solidarity movement.

At the event, the leadership of France Cuba was ratified, comprising President Fabrice Leclerc, Secretary General Roxane Prudhomme and Treasurer Corinne Pastori.
