The collective of Empresa Agroindustrial Ceballos, as an export production centre in Ciego de Avila, realised an old dream by sending the first shipments of hot peppers to the Canadian market from the Jardines del Rey international airport.
Verlaine Cabrera Estevez, director of Marketing and Business of the company Aerovaradero S.A., said on her Facebook profile that this action was achieved with the joint efforts of several departments and units, after the inauguration of the cargo unit of the freight forwarding agency she represents.
He added that the establishment of this space for imports and exports, located at the airport on the northern keys, was one of the agreements adopted within the framework of the Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2024).
Taking advantage of the current sales potential of what is also known as habanero chilli has options to exploit in the Canadian and Russian markets, given the arrival of airlines from those countries to the Avila transport facility.
Commercial cargo shipments through Jardines del Rey had been stopped since 2006 and were reactivated, for the only time, at the end of January 2020, when Caribex, the exporting-importing company of Cuban fish products, shipped 50 boxes of live elvers (eel fry) to an Asian country.
Fresh limes and lemons, pineapple, mango, chili peppers, avocado and aloe vera were part of the 48,295 tonnes sent to Canada in 2020 by Agroindustrial Ceballos, the note adds. (By Alden Hernández Díaz)
