Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State, is participating from this Tuesday until 31 July in the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament; organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), in close collaboration with the United Nations (UN).
This is the first time the head of the Cuban legislature has attended this important international event in person, held every five years and first established in 2000, on the eve of the United Nations Millennium Summit, as a unique forum for high-level participation and dialogue among the highest parliamentary authorities worldwide.
During the days of the Conference, taking place at the Palace of Nations – headquarters of the United Nations Office at Geneva –; Lazo Hernández will speak in the general debate, in panels and other convened forums; as well as hold bilateral meetings with parliamentary leaders from different nations, among other activities.
Also forming part of the Cuban delegation are Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva; deputy Marta Hernández Romero, coordinator of the standing committees of the National Assembly of People’s Power; and Jesús Rafael Mora, director of International Relations of the legislature.
