With a 12-strike offensive and excellent work by reliever Yunier Batista, the Tigres avileños achieved their third win in a row against Las Tunas, this time 6×3, and in the process maintained the lead, together with Industriales, in the III Elite Cuban Baseball League.
Batista came on for Leonardo Reyes in the fifth inning and, in the rest of the game, only allowed three hits without giving away any tickets. Another highlight of the game was the espirituano Rodolexis Moreno, with four hits in five innings.
The Avileños were the first to score, after two outs, with three consecutive singles by Rodolexis Moreno, Ronaldo Castillo and Leonekis Escalante.
In the fifth, also with two outs, they stepped on home three times, thanks to a double by Rodolexis, a ticket to Ronaldo, a single by Escalante, another base on balls to Cepeda and a two-run rocket by Robert Luis Delgado.
The Lumberjacks scored one in the fourth on a ground ball to Roberto Baldoquín and a double by his brother.
In the bottom of the fifth, thanks to a double by Héctor Castillo and a single by Yordanis Alarcón, the home side scored two and came within one run of tying the game. In that opportunity, starter Leonardo Reyes exploded and Yunier Batista came to his rescue.
The Tigers scored another run in the eighth on a single by Delgado, a double by Jonathan Bridón and an infield single by Jorge Luis Contreras, and added another in the ninth by combining singles by Guillén (stole third) and Rodolexis, and a run through the box by Ronaldo. It was the final nail in the coffin.
In the other two results of the day, Industriales beat Pinar del Río 7×1 and Santiago de Cuba beat Granma 12×5. Now Azules and Tigres have three smiles and one bitterness, Santiago and Granma have the same balance of two and two, while Las Tunas and Pinar accumulate three defeats and one success.
