For his text ¡Terrícola, te estoy oyendo!, the writer Omar Rosa González was distinguished with the runner-up prize in the second edition of the International Short Story Contest 2023 (C.I.C.R.E.A), organized by Editorial Annunate, of the Republic of Argentina.
Isabel Olivera, representative of this publishing house, explained that the work was selected by young people and their preference for a 10-page text with a topic apparently for adults was interesting.
She added that «the development of a local government intervened by an alien community» was the theme of the second edition of the contest, in which 205 authors competed and the winners were Oscar Vilches, from Peru, with the title Las crónicas de nefelibatas versus los antagonistas, and Rosa González, from Ciego de Ávila.
Nadia Borda Olivera, also head of the publishing house, said that they tried several ways to send the award and learned that Cuba had restrictions; however, the commitment with the writers was greater, so they contacted their embassy on the island and agreed to make the recognition official.
Omar Rosa González thanked the Annunate collective, especially the sisters Isabel and Nadia, who made it possible to deliver the cash prize, despite the adversities caused by the U.S. blockade of the largest of the Antilles.
This publishing house has one hundred percent of its titles digitized due to the scarcity of paper and inks, while, due to its ecological principles, it prints its books with recycled paper in small print runs.
The publishing house has a website on Google and Amazon platforms, and by next year they intend to have the Annunate group’s website, consisting of three imprints: fiction, children’s and research.
At the ceremony, held at the Argentine embassy in Cuba, Isabel Oliveira and Nadia Borda Olivera also handed over 20 volumes of the book Las crónicas de nefelibatas versus los antagonistas, which gathers the stories of the winners of the second edition of the C.I.C.R.R.E.A 2023.
Omar Rosa González has published in 13 countries in America and Europe, his works are included in 12 anthologies in six countries and 52 of his stories appear in 25 literary magazines. He also has a digital book in Argentina, entitled Los negros no comen canistel, and a physical volume of Avila editions: Hombres antes del suicidio (Men before suicide).
