Statistics show that over 300 people expressed interest in job offers at the most recent employment fair.
Since their launch in December 2023, the employment fairs organised by this province continue to demonstrate their value as timely opportunities for the population to access secure, formal employment. These events prove that useful job opportunities exist for all who need or wish to work, according to Marta Isabel Domínguez Allen, Head of the Employment Department at the Provincial Directorate of Labour and Social Security. She notes the fairs benefit not only job seekers but also organisations needing a workforce.
Marta explains that while four national fairs are held annually, additional intermediate fairs can be organised at provincial and municipal levels, with six held since January. These events attract unemployed citizens, those seeking job changes, workers looking to formalise their employment status, and individuals interested in training courses offered by Formatur, Gaviota, Etecsa, or the Ministry of Interior.
The latest June fair saw over 300 attendees expressing interest in job offers, with nearly one hundred requesting vocational training courses for future employment. Notably, while not excluding older citizens, the fairs see particularly strong engagement from younger job seekers.
The decision to relocate fairs from central areas to more peripheral communities has revealed additional benefits for both employers and organisers. In this context, social workers prove invaluable with their deep community knowledge that helps identify unemployed individuals not in education, while assessing neighbourhood needs and potential.
Alongside these fairs, the Labour Directorate works to guarantee employment for vocational training students, mid-level technicians, university graduates and military service completers, while maintaining monthly coordination with disability associations to further expand employment opportunities.
