The official visit which concluded today by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (PCC) and Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, demonstrated the priority and high consideration both parties accord to the strategic bilateral relationship.

This was recorded in the Joint Declaration issued here, which furthermore reaffirms “the spirit of international solidarity, the constant support and the willingness to continue cooperating and contributing to the development of Vietnam and Cuba in the new period”.

Vietnam –the text underlines- reaffirmed its constant solidarity and firm support for the creative resistance efforts of the Party, State and people of Cuba to overcome current difficulties and challenges, and expressed its willingness to continue accompanying and doing everything possible within its capacity to unite, support and cooperate with Cuba.

Referring to Díaz-Canel’s official talks with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) To Lam, the document indicates that both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the good development of political relations and cooperation at all levels and in all spheres.

In particular -it specifies- in the implementation of the consensuses reached by the high leaders of both Parties and States during To Lam’s visit to Cuba in September 2024.

In this regard the interlocutors praised the positive initial results in strategic sectors, particularly the pilot models for rice cultivation, the project of the Solar Photovoltaic Energy Complex in Cuba and the establishment of a joint enterprise for the manufacture of pharmaceutical and biotechnological products.

The two parties committed to supporting the creation of favourable conditions and stimulating the development of new cooperation models, suited to the characteristics of the situation and potential between research centres, training institutions and enterprises.

Furthermore, to expand the presence and participation of scientific institutions and enterprises from both countries in the process of socioeconomic development of Cuba and Vietnam, especially in areas of strategic cooperation with great potential such as agriculture and agricultural processing, new energies, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

Both parties highly valued the results of the 42nd Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Collaboration, and agreed to assign ministries and local authorities of the two countries the task of promoting and deepening existing cooperation mechanisms and agreements.

They also agreed to expand cooperation in potential areas, including investment in priority sectors such as agriculture, the food processing industry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical services, energy, telecommunications, tourism and digital transformation, among others.

They equally requested the pertinent authorities of the two countries to increase exchanges and coordination to eliminate difficulties and obstacles, and to make the most of the Vietnam-Cuba Trade Agreement to raise the volume of trade and diversify it.

Vietnam ratified its firm support for the just cause of the Cuban people against the unilateral and unjustified economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States and demanded its immediate and unconditional lifting, as well as the removal of Cuba from the unilateral list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
