Díaz-Canel Reaffirms Support for Palestinian Cause

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of the Republic, today reaffirmed Cuba’s historic solidarity with the Palestinian cause from his profile on the social network X, marking the 50th anniversary of Palestinian Land Day.

In his message, the president stated: «On Palestinian Land Day, we reaffirm Cuba’s historic solidarity with the just cause of a people who have been illegally, violently and systematically dispossessed of their lands by the genocidal government of Israel.»

Díaz-Canel concluded with the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, highlighting their enduring relevance: «Let the philosophy of dispossession cease, and the philosophy of war will cease.»

Palestinian Land Day is commemorated every 30 March in memory of the events of 1976, when six Palestinians died in Galilee during protests against the illegal confiscation of land by Israeli forces.

Since then, the date has become a symbol of resistance to occupation and reaffirms Palestinian national identity, with cultural events, marches and demonstrations both in the occupied territories and in the diaspora.

The commemoration is also an expression of international solidarity, through which various peoples and organisations denounce colonisation policies and support the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
