Díaz-Canel held telephone talks with new Mexican president

Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, expressed his admiration and sympathy to Claudia Sheinbaum for her victory in her election as President of Mexico.

In a telephone conversation, the Head of State confirmed the willingness to make progress in areas of mutual interest for bilateral relations, as reported through his account on the social network X.

«In telephone conversation with @Claudiashein, I reiterated warm congratulations on her election as President of #Mexico and conveyed our admiration and sympathy for her victory. Confirmed readiness to move forward in areas of mutual interest for bilateral relations».

On the same social network, the new Mexican president thanked the call and stressed that Mexico and Cuba are sister nations, united by ties of cooperation, solidarity and shared history.

Sheinbaum won the victory to become the first woman to occupy the presidency of the Aztec nation.

The result was confirmed early this morning by Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE) in its quick count, according to which Sheinbaum won between 58.3 and 60.7 percent of the vote, while her closest challenger, Xóchitl Gálvez, achieved estimated ranges between 26.6 and 28.6 percent.
