Díaz-Canel Exposes Damage of Blockade in Cuba to US Congress Members

Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Central Committee and President of the Republic, denounced the damage caused by the United States Government’s blockade against Cuba while receiving US congress members Pramila Jayapal and Jonathan Jackson, who are visiting the Caribbean nation.

The head of state reported on the exchange on social media platform X, where he addressed in particular «the consequences of the energy siege decreed by the current United States government and its threats of even more aggressive actions.»

The president reiterated the Cuban Government’s willingness to hold serious and responsible bilateral dialogue and to find solutions to existing differences.

In a statement published on Sunday, with impressions from their visit to Cuba, Jayapal and Jackson affirm that the oil blockade against the largest island in the Antilles is a cruel collective punishment, an economic bombardment of the country’s infrastructure, which has caused permanent damage.

«We heard a wide variety of voices: families, religious leaders, businesspeople, civil society organisations, the Cuban government, Latin American and African ambassadors, humanitarian aid organisations, and Cubans from across the political spectrum, including dissidents. Across all sectors there is agreement: this illegal blockade must end immediately,» the congress members assert.

The text adds: «We do NOT believe that the majority of Americans wish for this kind of cruelty and inhumanity to continue in our name.»

The US delegation concludes in their statement that both countries should immediately enter into real negotiations, which would also bring enormous benefits to the American people, derived from genuine collaboration between the two parties.
