Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, today began a working visit to the municipalities of Manicaragua and Cifuentes, in the central province of Villa Clara.
During the day, the Cuban leader plans to visit agricultural and industrial areas and social centres, as well as meet with party officials, the government and mass organisations to analyse the progress of the economy and the development plans of both territories, located more than 270 kilometres east of Havana.
On this visit, Díaz-Canel said on his account on the social network X that these tours allow for dialogue with peasants, workers, professionals from different sectors and with our people, because in the midst of difficult times, there are very inspiring collectives and experiences, he said.
The municipality of Manicaragua, the only one located in the mountainous area of Villa Clara, represents a pillar in the province for the cultivation of coffee; while the municipality of Cifuentes, located in the plains, plays a decisive role in the production of various crops and in the construction materials industry.
The visit completes the Cuban president’s check-up of the 13 municipalities of the province, a tour that seeks to learn about new experiences, evaluate the progress of strategic programmes for the country’s development and accompany the local authorities in their efforts for the progress of each territory.
