Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, is today carrying out his work programme in Malaysia, the first stop on an official visit to Asian countries, which will last until 21 February.
A meeting with the Honourable Wong Chen, Chairman of the Special Select Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, opened the Foreign Minister’s agenda in Malaysia, as reported on his official X account.
«We agreed on the historic ties of friendship between the two countries, which are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year,» said Rodríguez Parrilla.
The head of diplomacy in the West Indies later held talks with his Malaysian counterpart, Dato Seri Mohamad bin Hasan.
The Cuban foreign minister said that during the meeting he stressed his country’s determination to raise political, economic and trade relations and cooperation between the two countries to an even higher, mutually beneficial level.
Mohamad bin Hasan and Rodríguez Parrilla presided over the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Prensa Latina news agency and the German News Agency, as well as the Exchange of Notes for cooperation between the Institute of International Relations of the Caribbean island and the Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations of the Asian country.
Havana’s Ambassador to Kuala Lumpur, Florentino Batista González, also participated in the ceremony.
The official visit of the Cuban Foreign Minister to Malaysia takes place close to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, established on February 6, 1975.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, these ties have been built on the foundations of respect and friendship.
Accompanying Rodríguez Parrilla are the head of the Minister’s Secretariat, Nelson Tamayo Caro, and the Foreign Ministry’s director for Asia and Oceania, Ariel Lorenzo Rodríguez.
The official visit to Asian countries will include Singapore, Vietnam and Laos, where the Cuban ambassadors in those territories will also be part of the delegation.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the Foreign Minister will hold official talks with high-ranking officials from those countries as part of the programme of activities.
