The International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba condemned the new escalation by the United States government, considering that it evidences the criminal nature of its economic war policy against the Greater of the Antilles.
In an official statement, published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), the Cuban parliamentarians supported the position of the Revolutionary Government expressed on 30 January and rejected the recent Executive Order of the US president, which designates Cuba as a threat to that country’s national security.
The source highlights that the statement underlines that Cuba is a peaceful nation, firm in its condemnation of terrorism, and recalls that for more than six decades it has been a victim of state terrorism and a cruel and unjust economic blockade.
Likewise, the text warns that the tariff measure against countries that supply oil to Cuba violates International Law and the sovereignty of States, in addition to undermining regional stability and disregarding the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
The Commission reiterated Cuba’s readiness for dialogue with the United States, always on equal footing and with respect for national independence and sovereignty, while calling on the world’s parliaments to denounce Washington’s hostile policy and urged the American people themselves to reject the injustice, reports the publication.
The text thanks the messages of solidarity received from various countries, legislative bodies and political organisations, which call for respect for human rights and the progress of the Cuban people.
