Cuban Parliament Analyses National Energy Recovery

Deputies of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) will today debate the progress of the Caribbean nation’s energy recovery and mechanisms for popular oversight.

During the second day of the Fifth Ordinary Session, Energy and Mines Minister Vicente de la O Levy will brief legislators on advances under the Government Programme to restore the National Electroenergetic System.

The parliamentary agenda includes approval of Foreign Policy Guidelines for 2025-2028 and the accountability report from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation.

Additionally, deputies will examine improvements to institutional and popular oversight mechanisms.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero addressed the ordinary session regarding implementation of the Government Programme to correct economic distortions and revitalise the economy.

Among strategic updates, Marrero announced that the second half of the year will see transformation of the official exchange market, including comprehensive modernisation of exchange rate systems across monetary circuits.

The head of government also reported pension increases for recipients of less than four thousand pesos under age-based, disability, or spousal bereavement unified pensions.

«The challenges we must overcome are considerable, including the gradual resolution of issues most affecting the population (…) We believe the programme’s planned measures and charted course remain correct,» he emphasised.

Marrero stressed that despite operating in an economic warfare scenario, the Cuban government remains determined to defend the Revolution’s achievements and build «a sovereign, independent, socialist, democratic, prosperous and sustainable society – with all, and for the good of all.»
