Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and Minister of Foreign Relations, qualified the IV Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the European Union, held in Colombia, as excellent and timely, reports the Presidency website.
The Chancellor indicated that the discussions reflected the necessity of a more democratic and equitable international order, with respect for the sovereign equality of States and for International Law.
The current military threat from the United States against the region confirms the validity of the alert made by the historical leader of the Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in 1999, during the meeting that gave origin to the consultation mechanism, recalled the head of Cuban diplomacy.
Likewise, he affirmed that favourable initiatives were specified in confronting drug trafficking and in cooperation against organised crime, topics of common interest for the European Union and CELAC.
According to the minister, those matters were collected in the Final Declaration, although he considered that the text did not fully reflect the debate on the defence of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
During the sessions, meetings took place between Caribbean leaders and those of the European Union, with the participation of Colombia, encounters which the head qualified as profitable due to the firmness of the regional positions.
Rodríguez Parrilla highlighted that the Caribbean representatives claimed reparations for the horrors of colonialism and slavery, in addition to special and differentiated treatment in the international sphere.
He also underlined the denunciation of the unilateral coercive measures against developing countries and the demand for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, a matter present in both meetings and reflected in the Final Declaration.
Salvador Valdés Mesa, member of the Political Bureau and Vice President of the Republic, intervened in the sessions, whose words garnered recognition and respect, highlighted Rodríguez Parrilla, who considered that, despite their limitations, the encounters fulfilled their objectives and resulted indispensable for regional political consultation.
