The president of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP, parliament), Esteban Lazo, congratulated Cuban deputy Rolando González Patricio on his election as president of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino).
In his profile on the social network X, the head of the Council of State also said that the fact represents recognition of the work of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy developed by Cuba in the region and the historic contribution of the largest of the Antilles in this body.
In his message on Thursday, Lazo also congratulated the other members of the new Parlatino Bureau.
González Patricio was elected by acclamation President of the Parlatino Board of Directors for the period 2024-2026 by the XXXVIII Ordinary and Commemorative Assembly of the 60th Anniversary of the organism, which is being held in Panama.
According to this legislative body, the management of the head of the ANPP’s International Relations Commission has been characterised by the development of a broad programme to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations with Parlatino’s member congresses and national assemblies.
Likewise in the formation of strategic alliances of cooperation with Europe, Asia and Africa; in addition to projecting the expansion of the membership of the regional body.
The new Parlatino Board of Directors is also made up of deputies Carlos Núñez Salina (Paraguay), alternate president; Juan Martín Rodríguez (Uruguay), secretary general; Melina Ajoy Palma (Costa Rica), alternate secretary general, and Nancy Sánchez Arrendondo (Mexico), secretary of commissions.
Also; Congressman Didiano Pinilla (Panama), alternate secretary of committees; Congresswoman María del Carmen Alva Prieto (Peru), secretary of inter-institutional relations; and Congressman Alfredo Pacheco (Dominican Republic), secretary of inter-parliamentary relations.
The former president of the body and former president of the National Assembly of Panama, Elías A. Castillo, serves as executive secretary.
