Cuba is present at the forum «Solidarity in Action: Strengthening NGOs of the Global South for a new and just world», which is taking place in Azerbaijan, Cuban Ambassador to Baku, Carlos Valdés, informed today.

According to the diplomat in conversation with Prensa Latina, the forum brings together a broad spectrum of non-governmental organisations from more than 100 nations of the so-called Global South, in particular entities working on community issues, indigenous peoples, climate change, social development and the rights of communities and groups in vulnerable situations.

Representing Cuba at the forum is Lisandra Astiasarán, on behalf of the Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU).

The conference is organised by the «National Forum of Non-Governmental Organisations of Azerbaijan» and the «Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organisations of the Caucasian country», Valdés stressed.

The event takes place in thematic panels during two days of debates, and proposes the creation of a Global South NGO Platform, as a growing space for South-South cooperation and concertation on issues of common interest and concern, related to the challenges for development, justice, equity, and sustainability at the global level.
