Cuban Ambassador in Panama Denounces US Terrorist Actions

Cuba’s ambassador to Panama, Víctor Cairo, has denounced terrorist actions against his country sponsored and organised from the United States, as reported today in the local press.

In an interview with Bayano Digital, Cairo also condemned the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington on the island for over 66 years.

Regarding the recent publication of the US presidential memorandum dated 30 June, which renews hostile measures enacted under former President Donald Trump, the diplomat explained that bilateral relations between Cuba and the United States remain characterised by recently denounced aggression.

He specified that the situation is marked by «a strong positioning of anti-Cuban political figures» in the White House, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio – an instigator committed to destroying the Cuban Revolution.

Cairo further detailed that US economic, political, and diplomatic pressures have been accompanied by terrorist and subversive plots within the Caribbean nation, primarily targeting electrical installations, fuel depots, and attacks against hospitals and schools.

He added that these actions involve disseminating messages of hate and violence on social media to undermine Cuba’s constitutional order.

«As mercenaries prove ineffective internally and fail their vile objectives due to the people’s resilience,» he asserted, «they then hire individuals to commit sabotage and terrorist acts to generate panic, fear, and instability.»

He noted that Cuba has updated its list of individuals and organisations prosecuted or sought for involvement in terrorist acts against Cuba, fulfilling commitments under international law, Cuban legislation, and relevant conventions.

«This list includes individuals residing abroad – the vast majority in the United States. It has been submitted to the United Nations and Panamanian authorities so they may acknowledge, contribute, and cooperate with Cuba under their state obligations,» he clarified.

The ambassador recalled that Cuba is party to 19 international counterterrorism agreements and strictly complies with UN Security Council resolutions combating this scourge.

UN Resolution 1373 demands all states take measures to prevent and suppress terrorism, including criminalising terrorist financing and promoting international cooperation.

In this regard, he stressed: «Cuba holds no double discourse on terrorism. Our position is clear: we oppose terrorism in all its forms and reject the immoral, ethically false US designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism.»

The head of Cuba’s diplomatic mission also appealed for international solidarity and support from Cubans worldwide to reject the «inhumane blockade» – the primary obstacle to Cuba’s development – and resist unjust harassment violating principles of free trade among nations.
