Communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

As a result of the steps taken by comrade Esteban Lazo, as High Level Special Envoy of the President of the Republic, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and of the Council of State, during his visit to the Republic of Kenya and, specifically, his meeting with President William Ruto, sensitive information has been obtained that helps to advance in the still limited clarification of the news spread regarding the alleged deaths of the Cuban doctors Dr. Assel Herrera Correa and Dr. Landy Rodríguez Hernández, in Somalia, where they were being held hostage.

Comrade Lazo noted the spirit of cooperation of the Kenyan government and thanked them for their understanding in this sensitive and painful matter.

The information obtained is currently being processed by the authorities in charge of following up such an important investigation. In the meantime, efforts continue with various governments and international actors in search of cooperation and further clarification.
