Cuba seeks to strengthen its economy in the face of a complex scenario

Progress in strengthening Cuba’s socialist state enterprise and in developing agricultural production are priorities in this Caribbean nation, which is facing a complex economic scenario.

At a meeting of the Council of State held the day before, the members of this body also emphasised the importance of promoting exports of goods and services, boosting national production and industry to replace imports, and consolidating the process of bankarisation, among other aspects.

The debates at the meeting, led by the president of the National Assembly of People’s Power (parliament), Esteban Lazo, revolved around the implementation of the Government Programme to correct distortions and boost the economy, as a guide for the country’s work.

Lazo insisted on the relevance of effective popular and institutional control from all spheres, fundamentally in the municipality as a fundamental link in territorial development, and on the integrality and collective contribution in this process, reported the parliament.

On the day, the Minister of Domestic Trade, Betsy Díaz, explained the actions developed to fulfil the plan of measures derived from the accountability of this body to the National Assembly of People’s Power in July 2024.

Among other issues, she went into detail on the activities aimed at improving retail trade, territorial management, e-commerce and banking in the sector.

He also spoke about attention to recreation, institutional communication, science and innovation, and the fight against crime and illegalities.

The meeting was attended at the National Capitol by the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero.
