Attracting investment to boost food production in the country is the main purpose of Cuban companies participating in the Vietnam International Trade Fair (Vietnam Expo 2025).
This was stated by Doriel González, vice-president of the Food and Poultry Business Group (Gealav), and Edelkys Núñez, director of Development of the Pork Production and Marketing Business Group, both attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, in a dialogue with Prensa Latina.
The intention is to attract foreign investment and, through an international economic association, to promote the production of both chicken meat and eggs, two products in high demand and whose purchase in the domestic market is guaranteed, said González.
Gealav, he explained, has 26 production companies, a research institute, a genetics company and a breeding company that has been supporting egg production with its own genetics since 1963.
A partnership with a foreign partner would make it possible to improve the equipment and technology on the farms, to guarantee a stable supply of feed and medicines, and to increase the mass of layers in the more than 20 units available.
As far as the supply of animal feed is concerned, it is foreseen that this will be developed through the production chain with the three existing feed factories in Cuba, based on the import of raw materials, he added.
For its part, the Grupo Empresarial de Producción y Comercialización Porcina (Pig Production and Marketing Business Group) is focusing on the search for a partner for the production of animal feed, which would guarantee an increase in the availability of pork meat.
The Group, Antúnez explained, has 21 dry feed factories with a production capacity of more than 369,000 tonnes by processing the by-products of wheat, rice, maize and other raw materials.
It also has six liquid feed factories with an installed capacity of 62,280 tonnes from the processing of industrial waste, crop residues and by-products of the mini-industry, among others.
In addition to a research institute, 18 production and marketing companies and one logistics company, and two state-owned MSMEs, it also has a genetic company that owns 5,600 pure-bred breeders, including two breeds obtained in Cuba (CC 21 and L 35), which guarantees sovereignty in this area.
The Grupo Empresarial de Producción y Comercialización Porcina has already set up a joint venture with a Mexican partner and two economic partnership contracts with entities in Italy and Venezuela.
The 34th Vietnam Expo 2025 opened the day before and will run until April 5 at the Hanoi International Exhibition Centre with the participation of more than 500 companies from 16 countries and territories, according to the organisers.
