Cuban Foreign Secretary Bruno Rodríguez today recalled the dropping of the atomic bomb on the defenceless population of Nagasaki, which claimed thousands of lives and razed the city.
Via social media platform X, he expressed the urgency of the total, transparent, irreversible and verifiable elimination of nuclear weapons. «#Cuba will keep striving for this purpose for humanity’s future,» he added.
For its part, the Foreign Ministry highlighted that «80 years later, nuclear risk persists in a world fractured by conflicts and more lethal weapons.» Similarly, it insisted that peace demands remembrance, dialogue and disarmament.
The United States launched the attack against Nagasaki three days after bombing Hiroshima. It is estimated that both bombs claimed over 200 000 lives.
