Cuba Rejects United States Naval Blockade Against Venezuela

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, expressed today on the social network X Cuba’s vigorous rejection of the naval blockade imposed by the government of the United States against Venezuela.

In his message, the Cuban leader reaffirmed firm support for President Nicolás Maduro, the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution, as well as the People-Military Union that sustains the Venezuelan process.

Díaz-Canel also underlined Cuba’s total backing of the statement issued by the Government of Venezuela in response to the US measure, while he qualified the action as a new aggression against the sovereignty and self-determination of the Venezuelan people.

The official statement from the Government of Venezuela, dated the 16th of December 2025, and endorsed by the Cuban leader, denounces a grave threat from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who is said to have affirmed that the oil, land and mineral resources of Venezuela belong to him, demanding their immediate handover.

According to the text, Trump intends to impose a military naval blockade to appropriate said wealth, which constitutes a violation of International Law, free trade and free navigation.

The document highlights that Venezuela reaffirms its sovereignty, the right to free navigation and trade, and announces that its ambassador to the UN will present a formal complaint for this aggression.

Likewise, the text confirms that nation’s commitment to defending its rights in accordance with the Constitution, national laws and the Charter of the United Nations.

Cuba and Venezuela maintain a historic relationship of solidarity, in defence of Latin American and Caribbean integration against the policies of pressure and hostility from Washington.
