Cuba secured its first victory in the II Americas Baseball Series this Sunday by knocking out Argentina’s Daom club 10-0 at the majestic Estadio Monumental Simón Bolívar in Caracas.

Following defeats against Nicaragua’s Leones de León and the hosts Navegantes de Magallanes, the team managed by Germán Mesa found a winning path with three games remaining to conclude their preliminary round in the tournament.

At bat, Roel Santos, Harold Vázquez and Yasiel González hit home runs, in the latter’s case his second homer in the competition, to support the pitching of Randy Cueto, who pitched a complete eight innings, with six strikeouts and only one hit.

To advance to the semi-final matchups, scheduled for next Thursday, the Cuban side needs to be placed among the top four teams in the standings, which would be less tense if they manage a winning streak in the remaining schedule.

This Monday the squad from the largest of the Antilles will face Curaçao’s Cañones, a team with three losses in four outings.

The Sunday schedule also featured the knockout delivered by Colombia’s Caimanes de Barranquilla to the Curaçao side with a score of 12-0, and to close, the Navegantes play against the Nicaraguan team, while the undefeated leader Águilas Metropolitanas of Panama (3-0) had a rest day.
