Cuba greets Mexico Independence Day

On the occasion of the 215th anniversary of the Cry of Dolores, Cuba today greets the Government and people of Mexico on its Independence Day.

On behalf of the Government of Cuba, the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero, congratulated on X the Mexican people on their National Celebration, which commemorates the uprising of 16th September 1810, led by the priest Miguel Hidalgo.

The premier also thanked that North American nation for its support and solidarity.
Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs, in a message on the same social network ratified his country’s willingness to continue developing the bonds of friendship and cooperation.

From the past 8th September until this Tuesday the 16th, Cuba has been developing a cultural programme in homage to Mexico’s Independence Day.

Both nations have maintained a strong historical and cultural bond, in addition to the diplomatic relations which this year celebrated their 123rd anniversary.

With the Cry of Dolores, a call to the people of Dolores Hidalgo to rise up in arms against Spanish rule, the Mexican War of Independence began, which would extend for 11 years, until 27th September 1821.

During the national celebrations, thousands of Mexican families gather in the squares, main centres of the cities and town hall buildings to commemorate the Cry of Independence.
