Cuba commemorates 130 years since the meeting of La Mejorana

130 years after the meeting at La Mejorana, Cuba today evokes the importance of this meeting attended by the three main political and military leaders of the Necessary War (1895-1898): José Martí, Máximo Gómez and Antonio Maceo.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organisation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), stressed the value of unity, the main legacy of this historic event.

«Today marks the 130th anniversary of the meeting of Martí, Gómez and Maceo in La Mejorana. They had different visions on various issues, but in everything essential they were #UnidosXCuba. That is the legacy: the value of unity!», wrote the party leader and added the hashtag #CubaViveEnSuHistoria.

The meeting took place at the La Mejorana farm, near the village of Dos Caminos, in the then Oriente province, and was aimed at discussing the progress of actions and the way forward in the war.

According to the scant historical evidence on the meeting, it was tense, as there were contradictions in the way the struggle was organised, but the participants were committed to the cause of Cuban freedom.
