Cuba advocates peaceful coexistence in the world

On the occasion of the International Day for Coexistence in Peace that the world celebrates today, Cuba advocates for the respect and promotion of this and other purposes contained in the United Nations Charter.

In this regard, the island’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, reiterated on the social network X «respect for and promotion of peace and other purposes of the United Nations Charter, in the face of imperialist attacks and their attempts at expansionism and domination».

The UN General Assembly, in its resolution 72/130, declared 16 May «International Day for Coexistence in Peace», as a way of periodically mobilising the efforts of the international community to promote peace, tolerance, inclusion, understanding and solidarity.

The Day aims to uphold the desire to live and act together, united in differences and diversity, to build a sustainable world of peace, solidarity and harmony, says Unesco.

According to the website of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), «living together in peace means accepting differences and having the ability to listen to, recognise, respect and appreciate others, and to live in peace and solidarity».

Since the Antillean island, Latin America and the Caribbean was declared in 2014 as a Zone of Peace, based on respect for the principles and norms of International Law, including the international instruments to which the Member States are party, and the Principles and Purposes of the Charter of the United Nations.
