Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero urged provincial governments to implement development strategies that correspond to national projections in order to correct distortions and boost the economy, according to media reports.

The focus of the government’s work must be comprehensive and not based on isolated actions, Marrero said during a meeting with governors and the mayor of the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, which was also attended by the president of the National Assembly of People’s Power (parliament), Esteban Lazo, via videoconference.

In this regard, he called for more effective implementation of the measures contained in the government programme, which should become a guide for the work of the territorial authorities, to address the problems of each municipality, according to a report published by the Presidency of Cuba website.

We must be clear about the potential of our municipalities and, based on this, provide solutions to the problems that afflict their constituents, said the head of government after discussing with government officials the objectives and goals outlined for 2025.

Along these lines, Marrero indicated to review the selection mechanisms of the cadres, the completion of the staff in the areas and governmental structures of the provinces and the municipalities, as well as the preparation of the workforce so that they can fulfil their functions with quality.

From the Palace of the Revolution, the seat of the executive, and via videoconference with the territories, the meeting also addressed the progress of food production and the quality of the contracting process for the harvests, aspects in which deficiencies persist, they said.

During the meeting, clarifications were made on the economic plan and the budget for this year, the preparations for the next Population and Housing Census, among other matters, the source said.
