Professionals from the Capitán Roberto Rodríguez Fernández Provincial General Teaching Hospital, located in the Avileño municipality of Morón, are extolling Cuban public health by offering medical care in 17 countries.
Arnelis Hernández Carvajal, a collaboration specialist at the hospital, told the Cuban News Agency that 78 doctors, nurses, graduates and technicians are providing services in different continents.
She referred to the majority presence in countries such as Mexico, Venezuela and Qatar, and also highlighted the performance in other American nations (including the Caribbean islands) as well as in various African and Eurasian regions.
Among the collaborators are doctors of various specialties, who work successfully in rural and urban areas, with the aim of improving the health and well-being of the inhabitants of the areas where they work.
In the field, the Avilanian doctors carry out preventive and educational activities, as well as treating diseases typical of these countries.
Hernández Carvajal pointed out that there is an increasing demand for professionals to provide services in Mexico, Venezuela, Angola and Qatar.
Fulfilling the different modalities of the Cuban Health System’s international cooperation, he said, is a strategic objective.
The specialist added that efforts are aimed at maintaining a presence in countries that require specialised medical personnel, which enhances the image of this sector, favours scientific-technical exchange and generates economic benefits.
Another priority of medical cooperation is the ongoing improvement of care for development workers and their families.
