Ciego de Ávila to host the national FEU induction ceremony

The upcoming 30 September, Ciego de Ávila will host the venue for the national induction ceremony for the Federation of University Students (FEU), an organisation founded by Julio Antonio Mella on 20 December 1922.

During the ceremony, first-year students will receive their FEU membership cards, committing to become a driving force in all university processes and to become professionals capable of confronting the challenges imposed by today’s society.

The oldest mass organisation in Cuba faces the challenge of ensuring the university continues to be an inclusive space, free from elitism and all types of discrimination, and where unity prevails amidst heterogeneity.

The 30 September is chosen each year for the FEU’s membership drive, due to the historical coincidences on that date: 1921, Julio Antonio Mella entered the University; 1930, Rafael Trejo, the organisation’s first martyr, was assassinated; and in 1954 José Antonio Echeverría assumed the leadership of the Federation.
