A wide-ranging programme of activities is being carried out this Thursday 5 June by members of the José Martí Pioneers Organisation in the province of Ciego de Ávila to mark World Environment Day.

Special mornings, planting of plants, attention to school gardens and attention to Marti’s forests are on the programme for the day.

Together with teachers and guides, children and adolescents from primary and secondary schools in the territory organise talks to discuss the causes that affect nature and the consequences of climate change for life on Earth.

As true defenders of the environment, the Avilean members of the pioneer structure also take part in literature and drawing competitions, as well as in excursions and camping trips in protected areas.

The Avila pioneers will not only focus their activities today on the fight to protect the ecosystem, but to take immediate action to combat plastic pollution, the theme of World Environment Day.
