The province of Ciego de Ávila closed the month of July without any loss of human life on its roads, with only eight traffic accidents recorded.

This result reinforces the positive trend shown by the territory to date, with a significant reduction in road accidents compared to the previous year.

Between January and July 2026, 51 accidents were recorded, with 10 fatalities and 55 injuries, representing decreases of 41, 22 and 60 cases respectively compared to the same period in 2025.

The economic impact is also favourable: material damages amount to 232,000 pesos, a figure that represents a saving of 994,100 pesos compared to the previous year, evidencing a lesser impact of these events on the territory’s resources.

This achievement takes on special relevance during the summer season, a time when the flow of people to the province’s main recreational areas traditionally increases.

In this scenario, the authorities maintain active traffic surveillance and control operations, with emphasis on passenger transport to those destinations.

Among the preventive actions, alcohol testing points remain operational in the various municipalities, aimed at detecting and deterring driving under the influence of alcohol, one of the risk factors that can turn a routine journey into a tragedy. Added to these measures are the operations of the Provincial Road Safety and Traffic Commission, which reinforce supervision on major roads during days of higher mobility.

In parallel, workers at the Road Engineering Centre carry out important work on the recovery and repair of signage, an essential task to improve traffic conditions and provide timely warnings to drivers and pedestrians about the characteristics and potential risks of the roads.

Although lower vehicle traffic has influenced the behaviour of the indicators, the results achieved are also the fruit of the preventive and control work deployed in the territories to minimise dangers. The current challenge is not only to reduce the severity of accidents, but also their mere occurrence.

Every accident avoided represents a life preserved, a family protected, and economic and human losses that transcend any statistic.

In short, the figures up to July paint an encouraging picture in Ciego de Ávila: fewer accidents, fewer fatalities, fewer injuries and less material damage.

Maintaining this trend during the summer will depend on shared responsibility between drivers, pedestrians, transport operators and the institutions in charge of road safety.
