On Monday, 130 years after the resumption of the wars of independence, the highest political, governmental, military and executive representatives of the province of Ciego de Avila celebrated the important anniversary from the historic pastures of Lázaro López and renewed their commitments to the social and economic development of the territory.
In this sacred place of the Homeland took place the definitive constitution of the Invading Army on the 29th and 30th of November 1895, when more than four thousand mambises from Las Villas, Camagüey and Oriente, as well as 11 generals and Salvador Cisneros Betancourt, president of the Republic of Cuba in Arms, gathered in a military parade.
Orelvis Hernández Mendoza, historian of this town in the municipality of Majagua, highlighted in his speech the symbolism of this architectural complex, declared a National Monument since 2015, as a sign of the long-awaited unity of Cubans in their ideal of independence, defended until his death by José Martí.
The event was propitious to launch the Ciego en 26 campaign by Reina Torres Pérez, provincial director of Information and Communication, who said that this movement was born in a complex moment in which all the commitment, passion, tenacity and certainty of obtaining the national headquarters for the 26th of July is involved and imbued.
She explained that this political and communication campaign takes into account the work priorities of the Communist Party of Cuba and the revolutionary government for 2025, which will take the form of six battles ranging from the ideological political order to the economic and social.
These half a dozen battles reflect key aspects for the country, such as the strengthening of the revolutionary ideology, for life, the economy, food for the people, energy recovery and for the quality of services; they will concretise and make objective all the work of the people of Avila until the celebrations for the Day of National Rebellion.
Torres Pérez added that this is also a civic campaign for moral values, patriotic values and the recognition of patriotic and local history as an important legacy.
The slogan of this political and communication campaign will be the phrase: Beat for a 26th of unity and victory, while the hashtags #CiegoEn26, #LatirAvileño, #LatirAvileño26x7 and #CiegodeAvilaEn26 will be used.
Alfre Menéndez Pérez, governor of Ciego de Ávila, affirmed that there is no better tribute to the heroes and martyrs of Cuban independence and subsequent struggles than to be able to fulfil and reaffirm the words of General Máximo Gómez on this very stage almost 130 years ago when he said: «The day that there is no combat, will be a day lost or badly spent».
Julio Gómez Casanova, first secretary of the Party in the province, asserted that this is a commitment to the history of the homeland, which we must assume with all responsibility, each one from his or her work place and with the motivation implicit in a political movement of this type.
The most important thing is not to win the headquarters for 26 July but that with our daily actions we live up to the significance of that date and the example of those combatants who assaulted the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, said Gómez Casanova.
