Central Bank of Cuba announces changes to electronic payment bonuses

In order to encourage payments through electronic channels, the Central Bank of Cuba will implement from next Wednesday 29 January 2025, a modification on the bonus for online payments.

Since August 2023, this bonus has been set at 6% of the amounts paid online. However, it has not been possible to extend it to the entire retail network.

By virtue of a set of measures aimed at facilitating the progress of the process of banking transactions, previously outlined in the course of the National Assembly of People’s Power by the Minister President Juana Lilia Delgado Portal, it is necessary to take measures that make it possible to extend the bonus to the entire retail network and that the banks can continue to finance this bonus, and it has therefore been decided:

– To continue to grant a 6% rebate on online payments made to any retailer through the national gateways Transfermóvil, EnZona and Point of Sale Terminals.

– Exceptions to the above are online payments made in tourism facilities and dependencies, the purchase of construction materials and the purchase of fuel.

– Online payments in excess of 3500 CUP will be subsidised with a fixed amount of 210 CUP.

This measure maintains the benefit to the population for payments to the retail network and, at the same time, allows for an increase in the number of establishments where they will be applied.
