Bolivian Media Highlights Forum of Cubans Residing in Latin America

Bolivian television channel Abya Yala today underscored the outcomes of the Seventh Regional Meeting of Cubans Residing in Latin American and Caribbean Countries, held from 13th to 15th June in the Dominican Republic.

«Cuban delegates reaffirmed their support for the Homeland during difficult times, principally due to the United States’ economic, commercial and financial blockade,» stated María del Carmen March, Counsellor at the Cuban Embassy in Bolivia, during an interview on the flagship programme La Guarida, hosted by journalists Claudia Benavente and Jorge Barraza.

March explained that representatives of the Network of Cuban Residents in the region reiterated their backing for Cuba following the new US administration’s inclusion of the island—without justification—on its unilaterally compiled and illegitimate list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

The diplomat emphasised that the meeting’s Final Declaration expressed delegates’ solidarity, commitment, and readiness to contribute necessary actions enhancing exchanges that strengthen unity among compatriots.

According to the Counsellor, participants further demanded the White House cease the economic war causing profound suffering and shortages for the Cuban people, while defending their nation’s right to sovereignty and self-determination.

She noted they also reaffirmed their resolve to deepen ties with the largest of the Antilles to foster its socio-economic development and the people’s welfare.

When questioned by Benavente, young actress and film producer Carolina González—a Cuba resident in Bolivia—remarked that attendees expressed gratitude for solidarity movements supporting Cuba. She characterised as «highly positive» the agreement to leverage social media and communications in defending the Homeland and disseminating truth about Cuba’s history, reality, and cultural values.

González highlighted participants’ commitment to maintain support for anti-supremacist struggles through respective national chapters of the Antifascist International. She stressed their determination to preserve Cuban identity and respect for the Revolution’s policies and historical figures, united in the brotherhood these times demand, fully embracing the concept that «the Homeland encompasses us all.»

A delegation from Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the weekend meeting, led by Ana Teresita González, Director-General of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cuban Residents Abroad. Cuban Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Ángel Arzuaga and members of the Dominican Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba were also present.
