Among strings, applause, tears and memories, the people of Santiago de Cuba bid farewell today to the outstanding troubadour Eduardo Sosa, the «nagüito» who, with his voice and guitar, managed to conquer hearts beyond its borders.
In the Casa de la Trova, a flagship institution of this genre that so often hosted Sosa in concerts and performances, family, friends, intellectuals, musicians, directors of organisations and institutions, admirers, students and citizens gathered to pay their last farewell to the proud son of Tumba Siete, a town in the municipality of Segundo Frente in this southeastern territory.
Impregnated in a sense of loss and tribute, poems and songs such as «A mí me gusta, compay», performed by Annie Garcés, Pancho Amat and Abel Acosta, accompanied by the voices of the people in an improvised choir, showed the feelings and respect for the work of the beloved singer-songwriter.
The choir Orfeón Santiago, the duo Cohiba, Las Bayamesas, and the actress Dalia Leyva, among others, also paid tribute to the composer of more than a hundred songs full of truth, which speak of love, justice and the daily life of Cubans.
A special moment was the announcement that the «jevita», as he called the guitar with which he toured his country and the world, will rest in the Pablo Hernández Balaguer Music Museum, in this city, as a testimony of the love and admiration for one of the most important exponents of trova and national culture.
