Award-Winning Journalists from Avilanian Radio

The prestigious journalists Odania García Heredia and Dianelis Marín Dewar, from Radio Surco in Ciego de Ávila, were awarded First Prize in the annual Saúl Rodríguez provincial journalism competition, in the Radio category, for the series «Crisology of the Precious Blue Gold».

According to the competition jury, this recognition is supported by the depth of treatment of a topic of high social sensitivity, in which the courage of the reporters and their firmness in breaking barriers when seeking information from various sources is evident.

Second place went to Vasily Mendoza Pérez, for his work «The Non-Creation of the Provincial Music Centre in Ciego de Ávila», belonging to the cultural criticism section of the radio programme Matices. In his work, Mendoza Pérez denounces the bureaucracy involved in making decisions regarding matters of social sensitivity for the artistic sector.

Third prize was obtained by the distinguished journalist Alejandro Alvariño Íñigo, with a commentary on the performance of jockeys in Ciego de Ávila.

The winners of the annual Saúl Rodríguez provincial journalism competition were announced during the closing of Cuban Press Week in Ciego de Ávila.

At the event, awards were also announced in the categories of Print, Digital, Television, Graphic journalism and the special category, which in this edition was dedicated to the centenary of the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
